European travelers are among Aruba’s most frequent visitors. All EU citizens enjoy visa-free access to Aruba, but the Aruba ED Card is still mandatory for every European visitor in 2026.
Do EU Citizens Need a Visa for Aruba?
No visa required for citizens of all EU member states for stays up to 90 days. Despite Aruba’s constitutional ties to the Netherlands, EU freedom of movement rules do not apply – Aruba is an autonomous country outside the EU. The ED Card is still required for all EU nationals including Dutch citizens.
Important: Aruba Is Outside the Schengen Area
Aruba is NOT part of the Schengen Area. Days spent in Aruba do NOT count toward the 90/180-day Schengen limit. This is excellent news for EU travelers who have used their Schengen allowance – you can still visit Aruba freely.
Applying for the ED Card
Visit edcardaruba.aw within 7 days of arrival. The portal is available in English, Spanish, and Dutch. Follow our step-by-step guide.
Sustainability Fee for Europeans
EU air travelers aged 8+ pay the $20 USD Sustainability Fee (~€18-19). European Visa, Mastercard, and Maestro cards accepted. Once per calendar year. Full details: Sustainability Fee guide.
Flights from Europe to Aruba
- Amsterdam (AMS): KLM direct flights (~9.5 hours) – main European gateway
- Connections via US hubs (Miami, New York) from other European cities
Dutch Citizens – Special Note
Although Aruba is part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Dutch citizens are not exempt from the ED Card. Dutch is an official language in Aruba and Dutch passport holders enjoy a close cultural connection, but the ED Card requirement applies equally. See eligible travelers page.
